| The TrackMaster® Impact-Latch® — Picture-frame Security System for Wooden Frames |

The TrackMaster® Impact-Latch® system is designed to complement the TrackMaster® 8-inch wood picture-frame hanger and its 3.5-inch wood-frame adapter (Pat No 5,209,449). The Impact-Latch® functions to secure the bottoms of Impact-Latch-equipped picture frames securely to the walls on which they are mounted. The 8-inch TrackMaster® hanger and 3.5-inch TrackMaster® wood-frame adapter are required elements of the system. Properly employed, Impact-Latches® provide security from vibrational disturbances such as earthquakes, sonic booms and physical shocks such as inadvertent ‘bumps’ and dislocations. Thefts are discouraged as well because the Impact-Latch® provides considerable inertia when properly installed. The Impact-Latch® is designed to be installed using commonly available tools and requires no special wrenches or probes for removal, as with other security systems. The geometry of the system is key to its proper functioning. Each of the three system elements: the 8-inch TrackMaster® hanger, the 3.5-inch wood-frame adapter, and the 2-piece Impact-Latch® are important to overall system effectiveness. Fig. 1 shows the plan view of the two parts of the TrackMaster® Impact-Latch® as they appear assembled. Note the ‘detent’ features shown: The male detent on the ‘key’ and the female receptacle on the ‘latch.’ Fig. 2 shows front and back plan views of the latch. The front of the latch features a relieved key way, and detent, which act as receptacles for the mating key shown in Fig. 3. It also features raised indices surrounding the two screw-holes which serve to locate positions for the screws when mounting the latches on the wall. Fig. 3 shows the front and back plan views of the assembly’s mating key which is mounted on the reverse of the bottom member of the picture-frame. The mating key employs a small index to insure proper positioning on the frame such that the system is mounted parallel to the picture-frame’s bottom element. |
